1Does MASKOTAN® also protect against the coronavirus?
The effectiveness of our main ingredient hypochlorous acid (HOCI) has been confirmed by numerous tests in renowned German laboratories. MASKOTAN® is, therefore, effective against influenza viruses, coronaviruses, salmonella, herpes, H1N1, H5N1, E. coli, fungi and many more.
2What are the ingredients of MASKOTAN®?
MASKOTAN® is a water-based disinfectant. The main active ingredient used for our product is hypochlorous acid (HOCI). A small amount of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is also used. NaOCI, like hypochlorous acid, is an oxidizing agent. In our "lemon" spray, another component is natural lemon oil, which is produced by pressing the pericarp (peel), obtained from citrus fruits (Citrus Limon). The oil is 100% natural and organic.We deliberately avoided chemical additives and alcohol in the production process, which benefits not only you and your skin, but also the environment.
3How does MASKOTAN® work?

4Is the use of MASKOTAN® safe?
The main ingredient, Hypochlorous acid (HOCI) is also used in a wide variety of areas for cleaning and disinfection. It is a mild acid that is produced in the white blood cells. It is important for our immune system because it can break down cell walls of unicellular microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses. However, cell structures like those of human tissue are not damaged. Our products have a pH value of 6.5-7.5. (Use biocidal products carefully. Always read the label and product information before use.)
5How long does it last?
After MASKOTAN® is opened it should be used within 12 months. It keeps best if stored in a dark and cool place and protected from direct sunlight.
6What is hypochlorous acid and what does it do?
Hypochlorous acid (HOCI) is a weak acid, but it has a very strong oxidizing agent and redox potential. It is made naturally by the white blood cells in our body. HOCI can kill viruses, especially SARS-CoV-2 and bacteria, by breaking down the cell walls of unicellular microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses. The cell structures of the human tissue remain intact. It kills 99.99% of germs such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, coronaviruses, especially SARS-CoV-2. The natural and gentle properties of hypochlorous acid ensure that there are much lower risks when using it than when using conventional disinfectants. HOCl is now used in many areas: disinfection of surfaces and food, in health care for cleaning and rinsing wounds, as well as in the dental field.
7What masks can I disinfect with MASKOTAN®?
With MASKOTAN® you can use all commercially available mouth and nose protection covers and surfaces and disinfect them efficiently. These include everyday masks made of textiles, clinic masks, FFP1, FFP2, FFP3, N95 or KN95 masks. Harmful germs such as bacteria, viruses (especially SARS-CoV-2) or fungi can accumulate in the masks. For effective disinfection, it is sufficient to spray MASKOTAN® on the mask, leave it on for 30 seconds and wait a few more minutes until the fabric has dried again. Depending on the textile, this can take a longer or shorter time. Since there are no caustic, harmful chemicals or inflammable additives in MASKOTAN®, experience has shown that the spray has no bleaching or discoloring effect on the textiles. However, poor quality dyes can cause so-called "bleeding". We therefore recommend checking the material compatibility and color fastness on a non-visible area before use.
8Do I have to wash my mouth and nose protection at 60 degrees Celsius despite disinfection?
MASKOTAN® is intended for the daily disinfection of mouth and nose protection coverings at home or on the go. However, the RKI recommends washing the mouth and nose protection covers made of textiles regularly at 60 degrees Celsius.
